It’s not always comfortable. Sometimes it means pushing back — or suggesting a feature be dropped altogether. But this focus on value ensures the project doesn’t just complete — it delivers.
6 – BAcklog Artist
In Agile teams, the BA often plays a central role in managing the product backlog — a delicate balance of clarity, prioritisation, and people skills. A “Backlog Artist” ensures user stories are well-written, testable, and tied to genuine value — not just wish lists in disguise.
They also maintain backlog hygiene: refining regularly, reassessing priorities, and making sure the team isn’t bogged down by noise. And they achieve all this while working closely with product owners, developers, and testers.
7 – BAnter (Yes, Really)
And finally — a sense of humour.
Sometimes … you just have to laugh to get you through (beats crying)!!
The best BAs know how to lighten the room. They use humour to defuse tension, build rapport, and keep collaboration human. After all, the BA often sits at the crossroads of teams, departments, and sometimes egos. That takes emotional intelligence — and a well-placed joke goes a long way.
Humour makes difficult conversations easier. It makes workshops more engaging. And it makes the BA someone people want to work with — which can be just as important as the technical output.
